What Is Yuzu?

Yuzu is an open-sourced emulator for the Nintendo Switch that launched in 2018. As an emulator, Yuzu allows you to play certain Nintendo Switch titles on your PC. The most common way to use the Yuzu emulator is in tandem with your Switch console, meaning you must own a Switch to use the emulator.

Yuzu is a Nintendo Switch emulator for PC and Linux. In other words, Yuzu allows you to play your Nintendo switch games from your PC.

Although Yuzu is free, you’ll need to own the titles you want to play in order to (legally) obtain them for use with the Yuzu emulator.

How Do You Use Yuzu On PC?

To use Yuzu Nintendo Switch emulator on PC, you first need to download the emulator from the official website of the Yuzu project. Once you’ve downloaded and installed the emulator on your PC, you’ll need to copy game files and game keys from your Switch to your PC using specialized software.

The process of installing Yuzu on your PC and extracting game keys from your Switch game files is more complicated than you might assume.

Before you begin, you need to make sure you can even use your Switch with the Yuzu emulator. Not all Switch builds are compatible, and only models vulnerable to the fusee gelee RCM exploit will work.

To check if your Switch model is compatible, you can enter its serial number on this site.

If you have a compatible Switch, then you just need a few things to get started. In particular, you’ll need a USB-C cable for connecting your Switch to your PC and a micro SD card for transferring game keys/files.

Once you have what you need, then you’ll need to follow the process outlined in the Yuzu quick start guide, found here.

Basically, the guide walks you through the somewhat lengthy process of using special tools to download all of your Switch games and their software keys, and transferring those to the emulator on your PC.

While this is the most common way of using the Yuzu emulator, some people also download the game files and keys they want online, bypassing the need to own the games they use on the emulator.

This second method is not encouraged, however, as it’s illegal.
