  2. Professional Sports Teams or Players
  3. Game Characters (Overwatch Characters, Destiny Classes, etc.)
  4. Super Heroes
  5. Movie Characters
  6. Famous People
  7. Fitness
  8. Fantasy Races
  9. Fantasy Classes
  10. Content Creators (TikTokers, Youtubers, etc.)
  11. Game Consoles
  12. Social Media Platforms
  13. Cartoons
  14. Business Structure
  15. Wrestling / UFC

1. Anime

There are a few ways to go about making anime-themed roles in your Discord server. If you know your server likes a specific anime, like My Hero Academia, then you can structure your roles according to a single anime.

Mods are teachers, the #1 hero is the administrator, staff are professional heroes, new members are students, etc.

Or, you can assign roles based on character names across all anime, although the roles may be a bit more subjective. Either way, I would try to figure out which anime are popular in your server and go from there!

2. Professional Sports / eSports Teams or Players

Not everyone likes sports and not everyone likes eSports, however there’s a good chance that one or the other is popular in your server!

Soccer Player

Sports teams and players are popular when it comes to Discord roles, however I haven’t seen anyone use eSports for their roles!

If your server is into competitive gaming or watching eSports, then using different teams and roles will definitely make them happy.

You can also use the team structure as your roles; the Admin is “Coach”, the mods are “players”, and the server members are “fans”, for example.

3. Game Characters (Overwatch Characters, Destiny Classes, etc.)

What game you choose will depend on your server and what games your members like to play. If you chose Destiny, for example, bots could be Ghosts, Guardians could be your server members, the Admin could be The Traveller, etc.

With a little bit of creativity, you could take this idea and mold it to work with any game from League of Legends to World of Warcraft.

For a Hero game, like Overwatch, League, or Apex Legends, you could name each role after a specific hero / character – although it may require a little bit of bias.

This would also be the perfect opportunity to troll a little bit if your game of choice has any hated characters / classes.

4. Super Heroes / Comic Books

Just like the game characters, you may have to know a little bit about your server before going all-in with this one.

However, choosing a specific universe like Marvel, DC, or even The Boys, would be the easiest course of action.

Super Heroes

For Marvel, you could separate your roles into groups from the universe; Admins are S.H.I.E.L.D., Mods are The Avengers, followed by Pedestrians for the Server Members, or anything else that you deem fit.

Of course, you can also always choose specific heroes for each role, which would be especially great if you have some kind of leveling system in your server.

5. Movie Characters

This idea can also be applied to any shows that are popular within your server. You can be as general or as specific as you’d like.

If your server members are fans of horror movies, you can have your roles based around their favorite movies. Admins could be “Jack Torrance”, bots could be “Tony”, etc.

You could also just name roles after movies in general, based on your favorite movies or the favorite movies of your server members (maybe host a poll in the server to figure out what kinds of movies everyone likes.)

If you want to be really general, you could even just use movie genres as your roles!

6. Famous People

This is another very general idea and what specific roles you will choose will depend on the interests of your server.

If they love movies and shows, add in some actors. If they love Youtube, throw in some famous Youtubers. If they’re into sports, throw in some professional athletes.

This idea is pretty much infinite. The Administrator role could be anything from an A-list actor to a famous K-Pop group, and then you can move down the hierarchy from there.

There’s a ton of famous people, and they’re all famous for different reasons, so you can take this idea and mold it into perfect roles for your server members to enjoy.

7. Fitness

Fitness isn’t quite as broad as famous people, but there are still countless roles you can come up with. Some examples include; body builders, long distance runners, crossfit enthusiasts, nutritionists, dietitians, trainers, coaches, gym owners, ego lifters, etc.

Couple Working Out

You can even structure your roles after a gym. Even if no one in your server is into fitness, fitness roles are fairly intuitive so your members will be able to quickly understand who is who.

You can get more specific if you know more about your server. If you know a lot of people lift, for example, you can have roles based on weights.

If you know a lot of people run, you can have roles based on miles. The possibilities are endless!

8. Fantasy Races

I recommend taking a look at any game from Dungeons and Dragons to Skyrim to World of Warcraft. These games all have different races that you can easily incorporate into your server as roles.

There are Humans, Elves, Dark Elves, Orks, etc. You can have these be general roles and let your members assign themselves based on their own preferences, or you can have some kind of hierarchy in your server (keep in mind your members may disagree with this hierarchy though.)

You don’t have to stick to medieval fantasy, either. You can take classes from genres like CyberPunk, and futuristic fantasy settings like Destiny!

9. Fantasy Classes

This idea is similar to the Fantasy Races idea above, except we’re using classes instead. For example, World Of Warcraft has Warriors, Paladins, Hunters, Rogues, Priests, Shamans, Mages, Warlocks, Monks, Druids, Demon Hunters, Death Knights, and Evokers.

You can have a role for each of these classes and let your members self-assign their roles (while the Admins and Moderators can have their own specific roles.)

Again, the possibilities are endless and you can check out a Roleplaying Game to get some awesome class ideas for these roles.

10. Content Creators (TikTokers, Youtubers, etc.)

This idea is a little similar to the Famous People role above, except we’re going to focus on content creators.

You can leave this idea as broad as you want (content creators from every platform) or you can narrow it down to a specific platform (Twitch, Youtube, TikTok, etc.)

You can narrow it down even more by specifying a type of content creator (streamers, fitness influencers, IRL streamers, etc.) Again, it’s a good idea to gauge what your server likes so you can create roles that will interest them.

11. Game Consoles

Game consoles are another fantastic role idea that you can mold to fit your server perfectly. If you know everyone in your server loves to game on PCs, then the mods / administrators can be the PC master race, for example.

You can take this idea and spin it as much as you want. You could base the roles off of specific GPUs or computer parts, for example.

You can use different consoles as your roles (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, etc.) or if your members are more into one specific console, you can use the different models (Xbox 360, Xbox One, Series X, Series S, etc.)

12. Social Media Platforms

Social media is popular and some people love it while others hate it. Either way you can use social media in your server for your roles!

You can make the roles as general (Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, etc.) as you want, or you can make them specific to one platform i.e. administrators can be Elon Musk while members are Tweeters.

Which platforms you choose will likely depend on your server and members, as you wouldn’t want to pick one that no one in your server uses.

13. Cartoons

This idea is very similar to the anime roles at the top of this list. You can either choose a list of cartoons and base your roles around those cartoon names, or you can choose a specific cartoon and base your roles around the characters / organizations in the cartoon.

Turtle Meditating

You can even base your roles around Cartoon channels like WB, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Boomerang, etc.

You can either assign roles based on a hierarchy, or let your members self assign roles based on which cartoons they watch / used to watch!

14. Business Structure

This is a classic, yet a bit more generic idea for Discord roles. It is good if you have a huge variety of people in your Discord server. You can structure your business (server) however you want.

The Admin can be CEO, while the mods can be board members and your members can be customers, shareholders, or anything else you deem fit.

This is also a great idea if you have some kind of leveling system in your server so that your members can level up and climb the corporate ladder.

15. Wrestling / UFC

If your server has a lot of wrestling (WWE / AEW style) or UFC fans then you can base your roles around them.

For example, your Administrators can be World Champions, while your members can be contenders, Moderators can be light / featherweight champs, etc.

Of course, it all depends on your server. If you have a ton of UFC fans, but no wrestling fans, then you may want to stick with UFC belts or even fighters.

You could even go slightly more generic and have amateur fighters, semi-pro, professional, and world champions.

What Roles Should A Discord Server Have?

Every Discord server should have at least 3 main roles: administrators, moderators, and members. However, how many people are in each role, what the roles are responsible for, and what the roles will be called is ultimately up to the server owner.

Generally speaking though, admins are responsible for overseeing the server as a whole, mods are responsible for managing the members, and the members are just there to participate and have fun.

Think of it like a job at a grocery store. You have your store manager (admins), shift manager (mods), and regular employees. Each person has a role and a responsibility.
