1. Stardew Valley

  • Price: $15
  • Platforms: PC, Switch, Xbox, PlayStation

Stardew Valley is an absolute no-brainer for the top of this list. It is one of the best, most relaxing games that has ever been created.

Stardew Valley is a farming RPG simulator, similar to Harvest Moon, with just a little bit of Animal Crossing mixed in.

You farm crops, participate in community events, give presents, make friends, and just have a relaxing time.

The only thing I love more than Stardew Valley is co-op Stardew Valley with a good friend or significant other. I’ve never bonded with someone over a game more than when playing Stardew with them.

Stardew is truly one of the most immersive and wholesome games ever made and if you or your boyfriend / girlfriend have never played it, then I can’t recommend it enough.

There is no stress, no time limit, or anything like that. You simply live your life in a nice little town, make friends, and do whatever you want.

2. Minecraft

  • Price: $30
  • Platforms: Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, Mobile, PC

At this point everyone has played or at least heard of Minecraft, so I probably don’t have to sell you too much on the idea.

Minecraft is just one of those games that anyone can easily get into and have fun, especially when playing with someone else.

If you and your significant other are into survival games, want to work for your resources, and fend off monsters, then you can play in survival mode.

If you and your S/O just want to chill out and build some things like houses, mansions, statues, castles with drawbridges and a loch ness monster underneath, then you can play on creative mode.

No matter what kind of gamers you are, Minecraft is the easiest way to get lost for hours at a time and wonder where the time went.

It’s a great bonding experience and perfect for playing with a boyfriend / girlfriend because it’s a game everyone loves no matter what kind of gamer they are. There’s always something to explore, collect, or build.

3. Overcooked 2

  • Price: $25
  • Platforms: Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, PC

Overcooked 2 is one of the most chaotic games in the world, and if you’re looking for a way to put your relationship to the test, then look no further.

Overcooked 2 puts you and your teammate(s) in a kitchen and forces you to prepare orders, cook food, serve food, wash dishes, etc. all while a bunch of chaos is surrounding you.

The game is stressful in the most fun way possible, and creates some absolutely hilarious moments. For example, you may start out cooking in a hot air balloon and end up in a sushi kitchen, or the kitchen may have moving floors and portals.

Overcooked 2 has a ton of levels and plenty of gameplay to keep you and your girlfriend / boyfriend entertained for a week straight.

Every session feels just as fun and chaotic as the first, and it leaves very little to be desired in the fun department.

Overcooked 1 also exists, of course, and is worth a play – but Overcooked 2 really revamped the gameplay and polished the fun.

4. Portal 2

  • Price: $10
  • Platforms: PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Switch

Portal 2 is one of the best co-op experiences ever made and is a solidified classic when it comes to the puzzle game genre.

This game literally defined an era and if you and your significant other haven’t played the game, you need to. You will love it. I’m not even a fan of puzzle games and Portal 2 kept me hooked all the way through.

There’s nothing quite like playing the game with someone you care about, getting stuck on a puzzle, and getting the sweet dopamine rush when you finally figure it out.

If one of you has already played the Portal 2 co-op campaign, I’ll be honest and say you probably won’t have as much fun as you would if you hadn’t.

If you’ve only played solo, then don’t worry because the co-op has completely different puzzles. If neither of you have played, then buckle up and get ready for one of the best gaming experiences of your life!

5. WarioWare

  • Price: $50
  • Platforms: Switch

WarioWare is a crazy fun, high energy, fast paced party game. Think Mario Party except every game lasts 3 seconds and you have to scramble to figure out what you should be doing every time!

Basically WarioWare is a game full of microgames. It’s one of the quirkiest games ever made, and so unique that it’s almost impossible not to have fun playing it.

The newest WarioWare for the Switch switches (sorry) things up by adding a co-op campaign mode. The campaign doesn’t last very long (we beat it in a couple days), but there are also plenty of fun modes to play after you’ve beaten the story.

Overall, I recommend picking this game up on sale or buying a used copy because the price tag is just a little steep. If you don’t mind the price tag, you and your s/o will absolutely love it.

The demo is also available on the Nintendo Shop and will give you a really good idea of what to expect in the full game.

6. Untitled Goose Game

  • Price: $20
  • Platforms: PC, Switch, PS4, Xbox One

Untitled Goose Game made a lot of waves when it first came out in 2019. The title alone is enough to catch most gamers off guard.

Untitled Goose Game is a puzzle game where you and your s/o can walk around as geese, honking, flocking, and causing chaos.

The game offers one of the most unique gaming experiences, and is well-worth the $20 even considering how “short” the game actually is.

If you want to have a very wholesome, very fun gaming experience with your significant other, then the $20 is well-worth the price.

The puzzles are fun and quirky, the areas are built extremely well, and the entire world feels alive, so it’s easy to just turn your brain off with someone you like and get lost in the game for a few hours.

7. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

  • Price: $50
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch

Pretty much any LEGO game has a place on this list because they are just the perfect games to get lost in whether you’re a gamer or not. They’re fun, quirky, full of puzzles and action, and they almost always deliver on quality.

The Skywalker Saga is just one of the newest Star Wars Lego games, but if you’re not into Star Wars, there are plenty of other LEGO games to choose from and they’re all absolutely incredible.

Co-op doesn’t change the gameplay of the games at all, so you can experience all the stories without any changes while playing with your girlfriend / boyfriend.Anyone ha

The games are well-worth the price and provide hours on top of hours of gaming experiences, so if any of the LEGO games stand out to you – I highly recommend playing them with your significant other.

8. Don’t Starve Together

  • Price: $15
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch

Don’t Starve Together is basically Edgar Allen Poe meets Minecraft or The Forest. It is a survival game with an extremely unique atmosphere and art style.

If you and your significant other are into dark themes and hardcore survival gameplay then you’ll love Don’t Starve Together.

One thing you should know before diving into Don’t Starve is that it isn’t for the light hearted. It is a hard survival game and you’ll probably end up dying quite a few times.

The good news is that even if one of you dies, you’ll be able to run around as a ghost! However, when I play Don’t Starve Together with someone, I generally like to just restart the game if one of us dies so that we can continue the fun.

Of course, this means losing progress constantly, so it’s not for everyone, but if that sounds like something you and your girlfriend / boyfriend would enjoy, then the game is a lot of fun!

9. The Dark Pictures Anthology

  • Price: $20
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Xbox

Man of Medan is the first game in The Dark Pictures Anthology, which is a collection of games. Every game in the Anthology is a dark, dramatic, survival horror game based around a serious story, making choices, and trying to keep your characters alive (or watching them die due to making wrong decisions).

If you’re familiar with Telltale games like The Walking Dead, then it is a really similar premise. Your choices matter, and they’ll impact the story.

What makes Man of Medan and the Dark Pictures Anthology so special is that they’re actually multiplayer, so you can enjoy the story and make choices together with your significant other.

I recommend starting with Man of Medan and moving on from there since it’s the first game in the Anthology, but the stories are unrelated so you can honestly start with whichever one interests you the most. I actually started with Little Hope and had no issues at all!

10. Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime (Couch Co-Op)

  • Price: $15
  • Platforms: PC, Switch, PS4, Xbox One

Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime is really similar to We Need To Go Deeper if you’ve ever played that game.

The main difference is that Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime feels a bit more arcadey and fun, since it isn’t really rogue-like. Therefore there is a lot more action and all of the levels feel more “Beatable”.

The art is amazing, the characters are cute and the overall gameplay is wacky and fun. You and your s/o are going to absolutely love this game, I promise.

One caveat of this game is that it is couch co-op, so you will need to play in-person. There is no online multiplayer, so if you are looking for something to play with your boyfriend / girlfriend and can’t play on the same console, then you may have to find something else.

11. Castle Crashers

  • Price: $15
  • Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, Switch, PC

Castle Crashers is an absolute classic and if you’ve never experienced it, then I highly recommend grabbing it and playing through the campaign with your boyfriend / girlfriend.

Some of the humor may feel a little dated at this point, since the artstyle, humor, etc. is all based around early-2000s era Newgrounds.

However, this game will always hold a special place in my heart and the fun it provides is absolutely timeless.

The story will provide many hours of fun, and there are 4 different characters to choose from, so there are plenty of ways to play.

This adds replayability and gives you a reason to run through the campaign multiple times. It’s an easy play, and a lot of fun.

12. Borderlands 2

  • Price: $20
  • Platforms: PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, Switch

Borderlands 2 is yet another classic that I think every gamer should play at some point just for how influential the series is. Borderlands is a looter shooter RPG.

The gameplay involves running around, using your sick guns and crazy abilities to kill bucket-loads of enemies at a time, then looting their bodies of weapons, grenades, etc. all while leveling up and building your character with an interesting skill-tree.

I’m recommending Borderlands 2 instead of Borderlands 1 because Borderlands 2 really perfected the Borderlands style. Borderlands 1 is very rough around the edges, especially playing it nowadays.

The stories aren’t really interlinked, so you don’t have to worry about missing out on much, and if you’ve never played a Borderlands game before, #2 is going to give you the best bang for your buck.

The comedy isn’t always for everyone, but overall it will give you and your significant other quite a few laughs and endless hours of fun.

13. Broforce

  • Price: $15
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, Switch

Broforce is one of the most fun co-op games to ever grace us with its hypermasculine, action hero, presence. The name alone should give you a good idea of what kind of game this will be.

It’s a shooter-platformer, full of explosions, American Flags, and bullets. There are plenty of awesome, action-hero characters to play as and the game itself is so hilariously over-the-top that it’s hard not to have a good time running around blowing things up and blasting bad guys.

If you and your significant other are looking for a testosterone-packed platformer, then look no further!

14. It Takes Two

  • Price: $40
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch

It Takes Two is the perfect game to play with a significant other because it is a game that was literally designed to be played in co-op mode.

The story is also about a couple going through a rough patch, and learning to accept each other as they mend their relationship.

The gameplay of It Takes Two is basically a platforming puzzle game that requires working together with your partner to solve puzzles and move through the game.

No other game does co-op quite like It Takes Two because it was created specifically for co-op mode (hence the name).

The story is beautiful and the gameplay is fun and engaging enough to make you want to play through the whole game in one sitting.

15. Diablo 3

  • Price: $60
  • Platforms: PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One

If you love RPGs, dungeon crawlers, dark fantasy themes, etc. then you need to play Diablo 3, hands down. Diablo basically defined a genre, and Diablo 3 delivers everything you could want in an RPG.

Run through dungeons, loot all the equipment, and argue with your girlfriend / boyfriend about who should get what.

The game has a ton of depth, and can be played in split screen or on two separate consoles. The best part is Diablo 3 is truly timeless, if you pick it up now, you’ll still be coming back to it in 5 years because it never truly gets old.

Every playthrough will feel new and unique, and it can be enjoyed casually or you can min-max it to your heart’s desire.

There’s a reason the game has remained popular all these years and it isn’t going away anytime soon.
