Can You Use A Standing Desk For Streaming?

Streaming involves a lot of time sitting in front of a computer or camera, which can be detrimental to a person’s health. There are many solutions to prevent these dangers like exercising and taking breaks, but one popular fix is to buy a standing desk.

In this article, you will learn how you can use standing desks while streaming, and which standing desks are best for streamers.

Can You Use A Standing Desk For Streaming?

You can use a standing desk while streaming; however, many streamers prefer to be seated at their desks while streaming because standing for long hours at a time can become tiresome. Using a standing desk to stream may also require you to buy longer cables for your setup.

From my own experience of using a standing desk while I stream I can tell you that it is not as easy as it may seem. For me it was not the standing part that was difficult, it was having to re-arrange my setup to accommodate for a standing desk.

I had to buy a power strip with a long cord (like this one on Amazon) and then buy a small desk (like this one on Amazon) to place the power strip on.

Why did I have to do this you might be wondering? Well the reason is that having my desk raised so I could stream made it harder for the power cables of my lights, monitor, etc. to reach the power outlets.

Those cables are not very long and can easily be stretched to their limits by streamers who use a standing desk. I also had to buy a a soft floor mat (like this on on Amazon) because standing on the hard floor was hurting my feet.

Here is what my setup looked like (DO NOT mention my terrible cable management).

My Standing Desk Setup

After streaming while using a standing desk for about a month I decided it was easier to just sit and stream, but I still use my standing desk quite often for work.

With all that being said, standing desks are growing in popularity as more and more people are looking for ways to stay active while using their computers.

Let’s dive into some of the benefits of using a standing desk while you stream.

Benefits Of Using A Standing Desk For Streaming?

Using a standing desk for streaming helps improve posture, increases body movement, helps with concentration, gives you more room to move around on stream, and improves your mood.

Streamers tend to spend a lot of time in front of a computer, and this sedentary lifestyle can cause a lot of fatigue, both physically and mentally.

Standing desks improve your mood and energy level. Increasing your movement will get your blood pumping, which will benefit your physical and mental health.

And that increase in energy will inevitably carry over to your stream.

Another common problem is that most people spending a lot of time in front of a computer have bad posture, which can lead to chronic back and neck pain.

According to a study done measuring the effectiveness of standing desks, “Those who used standing desks during the studies reported an improvement of up to 32% in their lower back and neck pain after using the desk for a period of several weeks.”

Using a standing desk greatly reduces the sedentary time you are spending in a day, which leads to burning more calories in a day.

This helps in reduce the risk of weight gain and obesity, can help reduce blood sugar levels, and can help lower the risk of heart disease.

Having overall better health, higher energy levels, and an improved mood will generally help with anything you need in your life, including streaming.

And it’s like the old saying goes, if you feel good, you stream good (I made that up actually). But I think it is true. The better you feel, the better you will stream.

If you are interested in using a standing desk for your stream, here are some of the standing desks that I would recommend.

Best Standing Desks For Streaming & Gaming

The best desks for streaming and gaming are:

  1. Fully Jarvis Bamboo (Best Overall)
  2. ApexDesk Elite
  3. Mojo Gamer Pro
  4. Flexispot EN1 (Best Budget Option)
  5. Stand Steady X-Elite Pro

You can check out each of these desks in more detail below. I also provided the Amazon links if you want to see what the desks are priced at.

1. Fully Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk

The Fully Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk is one of the best all-around desks on the market. It is made out of sustainably grown bamboo and is one of the most eco-friendly products you can find.

It can support 350 lbs (150kg) and the height can be adjusted between 30″ to 49.3″ (75 to 125cm), which can support people as tall as 6’7″ (2 meters).

It also comes in multiple shapes, including the the standard rectangular shape and the L-shape if you plan on placing this desk in a corner.

Lastly, this desk has a wide range of sizing options so whether you are looking for a huge behemoth to fit your entire setup on, or a smaller sized desk for just your PC and monitor, they have what you need.

This desk would be my #1 choice if I were looking for a standing desk to use while I stream.

2. ApexDesk Elite Standing Desk

ApexDesk is one of the better value options you can buy. It has one of the biggest surface areas compared to other standing desks (60″ 150cm), which is beneficial if you have a bigger mousepad.

It also has multiple cable pass-throughs for people using multiple monitors. However, it has a lower maximum capacity of 220 lbs (100kg) than other desks on this list and a slower height adjustment mechanism.

The ApexDesk Elite is a good middle option for those who want a standing desk to stream from.

3. Mojo Gamer Pro Standing Desk

Mojo Gamer Pro has the most comprehensive standing desk. This model comes with functional accessories to help you manage your cables, hang your PC, and connect your monitor, without needing to buy any external accessories.

The desk comes in sizes that vary between 48″x30″ to 72″x30″ so you can find the size that works best for you. It also can be adjusted to be as low as 24″ or as high as 49.8.

So rather you are really short, or really tall, this desk can work for you. It can also support up to 300 lbs., which is more than enough for most streaming setups.

Lastly, this desk is easy to setup so you can just get it and start using it. While it is pricier than other standing desks, it has everything you need for your streaming/gaming setup.

4. Flexispot EN1 Standing Desk

The Flexispot is one of the cheapest standing desks you can get. The desk has a smooth and silent adjustment mechanism that can raise up 48.6″ (120cm).

It’s a rectangle shape and you can choose sizes that range from 40″x24″ all the way up to 60″x24″. It can support up to 154 lbs. which is more than enough for most streaming setups.

If you want to use a standing desk while you stream, but don’t want to spend too much money, then this desk is an excellent choice.

5. Stand Steady X-Elite Pro

Stand Steady converter offers a simpler transition by giving you the chance to test out a standing desk, without the commitment of buying one. If you feel like it’s not your thing, you can simply remove it from your desk and go back to your normal desk.

The Stand Steady can be placed on just about any sturdy table or desk and allows you to adjust the height to your liking.

The downside of it is that the smaller frame cannot support the weight other desks can. It tops out at 40 pounds (15kg) which isn’t a whole lot.

This means it can probably support a monitor, your mouse, and your keyboard, but if you start adding thigs like an audio mixer, camera, and lights then you may run out of space quickly.

Can You Use A Standing Desk For Gaming?

You can use a standing desk for gaming; however, many gamers prefer to sit down while they game because it is less tiresome and easier to focus on the game they are playing.

Similar to streaming with a standing desk, gaming with a standing desk is also difficult. Not only do you have to worry about your cables being long enough, you also have to worry about things like monitor height and holding your controller (if you play using controller).

These two things are something I noticed while gaming using a standing desk. I didn’t realize how much I used my lap to support my controller, which is not possible if you are using a standing desk.

With all this being said, if you spend long hours a day on your computer editing videos, watching streams, and scrolling through social media, then using a standing desk makes sense.

Like I said, I have one, and even though I don’t use it for streaming and gaming I will use it for other things. And it’s nice being able to sit and stand whenever I feel like it. I have no regrets.
