How Many Discord Accounts Can You Have?

Discord started off as a communication tool for gamers. Now, it’s also the go-to app for study groups, family video calls, and podcasts. With so many purposes people have considered making multiple accounts. But can you?

How Many Discord Accounts Can You Have?

Discord has not imposed a specific limit on the number of accounts you can have on the platform. The primary identifier for signing up is your email address, and you can only link one Discord account to it. Nevertheless, you can make multiple accounts as long as you have multiple emails to register with.

If you’re a gamer, student, and entrepreneur all at once — you might need separate accounts to make the best out of your Discord experience. If that’s so, you’re in the right place. Let’s get started!

How To Create Multiple Discord Accounts?

To create multiple accounts, you have to repeat the sign-up process on https://discord.com/register several times. It requires you to enter a username, password, email address, and date of birth. Note that you must use a unique email address to register each of your Discord accounts.

Also, make sure you are logged out of the Discord app. You will not be able to create another account while you are logged into Discord.

Discord houses many online communities. Besides your gaming group’s hang-out spot, the pandemic has also turned Discord into an online educational institute of sorts.

One account for all of your Discord needs might not be as manageable as having multiple accounts. It could also be nice to have an entire Discord dedicated to one genre such as sports or music.

But do you really have to have multiple emails?

How Many Discord Accounts Can You Have On One Email?

You can only create one Discord account using a particular email address. Discord does not allow more than one account to be registered using the same email. However, users can sign up with as many accounts as they want using unique email addresses for each Discord account.

Like most other online communication tools, Discord also needs a primary identifier to register new users onto the platform — and it’s your email address.

Sure, this sounds like a bummer, but there’s a valid reason behind this rule. With such a vast user base like Discord’s, comes a massive group of abusers.

Imagine if you banned one of those from your server, only to see them jump back in repeatedly with tens of different accounts registered using the same email. It’d be a nightmare to keep servers free of troublemakers.

So, while it might be annoying to log into different accounts using multiple email addresses, it still makes Discord a better place for us all.

With that being said, it could help to create multiple emails that are similar, but still help you to identify what that particular Discord account will be used for.

For example, if you want to create a Discord account where you follow sports, one where you check your stocks, and then one more for gaming you could use email addresses such as “[email protected]”, “[email protected]”, and “[email protected]”.

These are similar emails, so they will be easy to keep track of, but they are still different enough so that you can use them to create multiple Discord accounts.

I know this may not be ideal, but it is the best way to go for now.

So we know you must use separate emails for different accounts, but what about phone numbers? Can you use the same phone number across multiple accounts?

Can You Use The Same Phone Number For Multiple Discord Accounts?

Discord only allows one account to be tied to a certain phone number. However, you can still have as many Discord accounts as you want without linking them with your phone number, as you are not required to link your phone number in order to join the platform, unlike your email address.

Unlike your email address, your phone number isn’t the primary identifier to register your account on Discord. Users don’t necessarily have to link their phone number with their Discord account, but certain servers might require you to.

Discord enabled its ‘double table flip security’ feature to help protect servers from abusers on the platform. By selecting this option, certain servers can boost their protection by requiring all their users to have verified their accounts with a linked phone number.

You might not have had much experience with spam accounts on Discord yet, but most of them do not have their phone numbers linked to the account — I can tell you that much. This makes it easier for servers to ensure that only the good ones get in, so there’s not much to complain about.

Besides, it’s not a compulsory requirement to have your phone number linked to use the platform — it’s just a requirement to get into certain high-protection servers.

Is It Against Discord TOS To Have Multiple Accounts?

Having more than one account on Discord is well within their terms of use. In fact, there’s no defined limit to the number of Discord accounts a person can have, as long as they have a separate email address for all of them.

As I’ve discussed in the beginning, using multiple accounts is a practical solution to use Discord in a manageable way. After all, the service has become so diverse with the number of communities it’s home to, and having a single account might not cut it for you anymore.

However, no limit on the number of accounts you can have doesn’t mean there’s no regulation. Discord takes its terms of service seriously, and making multiple accounts with malicious intent (like spam) can lead to your accounts getting suspended or even banned.

You can learn more about Discord bans in my article here, but you should know that Discord bans are usually permanent and so you will lose your account for good. It’s just not worth it.

Also, keep in mind that any violation of the Discord TOS is bannable, whether it’s performed with one account or a hundred spam accounts.

But if you are having a hard time keeping up with all the different servers you are a part of then it may be time to create another account to help you better manage your Discord.
