When you are a small streamer on Twitch, one of the best things that you can do to attract new viewers is to have a catchy stream title. But the first step in creating a catchy title is first knowing how to change your stream title in the first place. Here is how you change your Twitch stream title.

How To Change Twitch Stream Title

  1. Log into your Twitch account, click on your profile icon, then click “Creator Dashboard”
  2. On the left side click “Stream Manager”
  3. Now on the right side click “Edit Stream Info”
  4. In the pop-up window that appears, go to the “Title” section and change the title
  5. Click “Done” when finished

Just in case you needed a little extra help, I took screenshots of how you title your stream to help walk you through it. Here are screen grabs of how you would change the title of your stream using Twitch:

Log into your Twitch account, click on your profile icon, then click “Creator Dashboard”.

Profile Icon > Creator Dashboard

On the left side click “Stream Manager”. Now on the right side click “Edit Stream Info”.

In the pop-up window that appears, go to the “Title” section and change the title. Click “Done” when finished.

Title Section > Done

I find that changing the title of your stream through Twitch to be the easiest way to change your stream title. The reason being is that regardless which software you use to stream, this method will work.

Now you can also change the title of your stream using most streaming softwares like Streamlabs and OBS. Let me show you how to change the title of your stream using the most common streaming softwares, Streamlabs then OBS.

How To Change Your Twitch Stream Title On Streamlabs

  1. Open Streamlabs
  2. Click on the pencil icon in the upper left corner, just above your chat box
  3. A pop up window will appear where you can update your stream info
  4. Go to the “Title” section and add your title
  5. Click “Update” in the bottom right of the window and your new title will be saved

I took screenshots of how you title your stream using Streamlabs to help walk you through it.

Open Streamlabs and then click on the pencil icon in the upper left corner, just above your chat box.

A pop up window will appear where you can update your stream info. Go to the “Title” section and add your title. Click “Update” in the bottom right of the window and your new title will be saved.

Like I mentioned earlier, I personally prefer changing my title through Twitch itself, but either way will work. If you are in your Streamlabs chatting, it can be a quick and easy switch.

Also, if the pencil icon is not showing, you may need to pop out your chat. You can do that by clicking the arrow in the middle of the left side of the screen. After this, the icon should appear.

Next, if you use OBS to stream, here is how you would change your Twitch stream title.

Once you click done, your stream title will be updated. Here are some screen shots to guide you if you need extra help.

Open OBS. In the top left click “File”, then “Settings”, then “Stream”.

Again, I still feel like going through the Twitch website is the easiest way to update your title, but if you are in OBS and want to update quickly you can. Now if you are on mobile, here is how you would update your Twitch title.

Besides my guide here, I also created a Youtube video explaining how to change your Twitch title on various platforms.

Mobile is another quick and easy way to change a stream title. In fact, I think this is my second favorite option. But if you are busy in a stream, can you just have a mod change a title for you?

Can A Twitch Mod Change The Title Of A Twitch Stream?

A Twitch mod can change the title of a Twitch stream. For this reason you will want to choose who you make a mod in your stream carefully so they don’t mess up your stream title.

Here is how you would change the stream title as a mod.

How To Change The Title Of A Twitch Stream As A Mod?

  1. Go to the Twitch channel you are a mod in
  2. Click on the sword icon at the bottom of chat
  3. Next, click on the pencil icon below the stream, next to the stream’s current title
  4. In the pop-up window that appears, go to the “Title” section and change the title, then click “Done”
  5. The stream title will now be updated

Here are some screen grabs I had my awesome moderator take to help walk you all through the process:

Go to the Twitch channel you are a mod in. Click on the sword icon at the bottom of chat.

Mod Sword Icon

Next, click on the pencil icon below the stream, next to the stream’s current title.

In the pop-up window that appears, go to the “Title” section and change the title, then click “Done”. The stream title will now be updated.

I also created this helpful Youtube video that walks you through the process as well.

Some streamers also have commands that allow them and their mods to change the title of their stream, but this would be up to the streamer to set up. If you are a streamer or a mod, and are interested in such a command, then check out Nightbot where you can set this command up.

Common Questions About Twitch Stream Titles

Can You Use Curse Words In Your Twitch Stream Title?

You can’t use curse words, slurs, or any other derogatory words or phrases in your Twitch stream title. If you do try to use a curse word or phrase that Twitch prohibits, you will get an auto-response telling you “This title may conflict with Twitch’s moderation policy.” and your title won’t save.

Do Twitch Stream Titles Matter?

Twitch stream titles do matter and they are important. A catchy title can pull users into your stream and encourage them to interact with you. Since Twitch does not have many discovery tools, it’s important to use the tools you do have, such as the ability to title your stream.

Can You Use Hashtags In Your Twitch Stream Titles?

You can use hashtags in your stream title, but they are not clickable and there is no feed on Twitch where people can search for certain hashtags. However, some streamers share their streams on platforms like Twitter and so they add hashtags so that these tags can be searched by others on Twitter.

Can You Change Your Twitch Stream Title During A Stream?

You can change your stream title during a stream. Changing your stream title during a stream is the same process as changing it before a stream.
