What Does monkaOMEGA Mean? – Origin & How To Use It

If you have been in a Twitch stream you may have seen people type, or heard people say “monkaOMEGA”. But what does this word and emote mean?

In this article I go over the meaning of “monkaOMEGA”, the origin, and how you can use this emote on Twitch and Youtube as a viewer and as a streamer.

What Does The monkaOMEGA Emote Mean?

The monkaOMEGA emote is meant to convey that something so stressful or intense is occurring on stream that you can’t take your eyes off the stream. This is the reason for the huge eyes. However, like many Twitch emotes, it is most often used ironically and not during an actual stressful situation.

Some viewers even use the emote to mean that the stream is so intense that their head is about to explode, figuratively speaking of course.

Like many Twitch emotes, the meaning will vary from viewer to viewer and from stream to stream.

monkaOMEGA Emote Origin

The monkaOMEGA emote is based on Pepe the Frog, a cartoon created by Matt Furie in 2005. The monkaOMEGA emote was originally uploaded to FFZ on March 16th, 2017 by KaiOwei and then to BTTV on August 2nd, 2017 by P3NTAZ.

Although the emote is based on Pepe the Frog, the real idea for the emote itself came from the monkaS emote. The monkaS emote was originally used on 4chan in 2011, and has since grown into one of the most popular emotes/memes on the internet.

In fact, the monkaS emote has inspired other great emotes such as monkaWmonkaH, and monkaMEGA. MonkaOMEGA is truly just another spinoff of monkaS.

However the thing that separates this emote from the other monkaS inspired emote are the huge bulging eyes that take up most of the emote.

The monkaOMEGA emote is currently used on over 50,000 Twitch channels between FFZ and BTTV combined. It is currently the 32nd most used emote on FFZ.

The monkaOMEGA emote is not as popular on BTTV as it is on FFZ. It is not even one of the top 100 most popular emotes on BTTV.

How To Use The monkaOMEGA Emote On Twitch

  1. Add the FFZ or the BTTV Google extensions to your Twitch account.
  2. Make sure the streamer has the monkaOMEGA emote enabled on their channel.
  3. Type “monkaOMEGA” in the streamer’s Twitch chat (without the quotation marks) and send the message.
  4. The monkaOMEGA emote will now appear in the stream’s chat.

Make sure you type monkaOMEGA exactly as it appears with the correct spelling and capitalization. If you don’t, it won’t work. Also, a streamer must have the emote enabled on either FFZ or BTTV in order for it to work.

Another cool thing is that if you are on PC, you can just click the little emoji button and select which emote you want to send in Twitch chat.

If you need more help I wrote an entire article about adding BTTV emotes to your Twitch account and adding FFZ to your Twitch account. These guides are helpful for both streamers and viewers.

How To Use The monkaOMEGA Emote On Youtube

  1. Add the BTTV Google extension to your Youtube account.
  2. Make sure the streamer has the monkaOMEGA emote enabled on their channel.
  3. Type “monkaOMEGA” in the streamer’s chat (without the quotation marks) and send the message.
  4. The monkaOMEGA emote will now appear in the stream’s chat.

If you need more help I wrote an entire article about adding BTTV emotes to your Youtube account. This guide will help regardless if you are a streamer or a viewer.

Unfortunately, FFZ and Youtube Gaming are not currently compatible and so you will only be able to use this emote on Youtube with the BTTV extension.

When To Use The monkaOMEGA Emote?

The monkaOMEGA emote is best used in stressful or intense situations. For example, if the streamer is the last one on their team left, and they start fighting a new team that has all their players, the chat may begin to spam this emote.

Think of the emote being you wide eyed and glued to your screen waiting to see what happens next.

Why Is The monkaOMEGA Emote Not Appearing In Chat?

Here are common reasons why the monkaOMEGA emote may not be appearing in chat:

  1. The viewer trying to use the emote does not have the BTTV or FFZ extension.
  2. The streamer does not have the BTTV or FFZ extension.
  3. The streamer does not have the monkaOMEGA emote enabled on their channel.
  4. The viewer is trying to use the emote on mobile.
  5. The person did not type “monkaOMEGA” correctly.
  6. Twitch or Youtube banned the emote.

The reasons listed above are the most common reasons why the monkaOMEGA emote won’t work in chat.

If you feel like you have checked off everything listed above, and the monkaOMEGA emote still won’t work for you, then check out my article here where I go into more detail as to why your emotes may not be working and how to fix it.

How To Pronounce monkaOMEGA?

The correct way to pronounce monkaOMEGA is “monka-omega.” Monk, like the word monk, then the ‘a’ makes an ‘uh’ sound as in the word asleep, and lastly the word ‘Omega’ is pronounced normally. Monk-a-OMEGA.

The monkaOMEGA emote is a fairly popular monkaS style emote that is great for any stream. And the huge eyes on the emote really make it stand out amongst other emotes.

I like gaming, streaming and watching other people stream. I created this website to help streamers, viewers, and gamers answer questions they have regarding live streaming, gaming, and PCs. I am a Twitch affiliate and currently stream on Twitch 3 days a week. I also have a Youtube channel where I make videos about streaming. I hope you find my content helpful.
