What Is Discord Streamer Mode And How To Enable It?

If you use Discord, you may have noticed something called “Streamer Mode”. But what is streamer mode and how do you use it? I cover all that and more down below.

What Is Discord Streamer Mode And What Does It Do?

Discord streamer mode is a feature on Discord that when enabled, allows users to hide information from a public audience during live streaming. Users can select what information to keep hidden such as messages, pop-ups, and location.

Stream Mode Features

If you are a streamer, this is a great feature to use so that way you can better protect your personal information.

Let’s go over how to enable streamer mode on Discord.

How To Enable Streamer Mode On Discord?

  1. Open up Discord on your PC and click on the gear icon in the bottom left to open your user settings.
  2. On the left hand side click on “Streamer Mode”.
  3. Now toggle on “Enable Streamer Mode” and streamer mode will now be enabled.

Here are some screen shots to provide some more detail for you.

Open up Discord on your PC and click on the gear icon in the bottom left to open your user settings.

Gear Icon

On the left hand side click on “Streamer Mode”.

Now toggle on “Enable Streamer Mode” and streamer mode will now be enabled.

Now as you can see there are several other features that you can toggle on such as “Disable Sounds” and “Disable Notifications”.

These are really just personal choices, but for me I would recommend enabling all of them. If you have an active Discord all those sounds and notifications could ruin your stream.

Also, hiding your personal information is a no brainer. If you are streaming and open up your Discord it would be awful if you accidently screen shared some of your personal information.

I would have that enabled just to be on the safe side.

If you stream using OBS or Xsplit then Discord also has a feature that will automatically enable streamer mode whenever you open either of those softwares. I recommend having that enabled as well just in case you ever forget.

The software I use for streaming is Streamlabs and if you want to know why you can check out my article here.

Another thing I want to add about enabling streamer mode on Discord is that you can enable streamer with the use of hotkeys.

As you can see in the image above, you can adjust your keybind settings to allow you to more easily enable and disable streamer mode by simply pressing a few keys.

This is helpful for two reasons: one you don’t have to go through all the steps above to enable streamer mode. Just hit your hotkeys and boom, streamer mode is turned on.

The other reason is that it allows you to easily enable and disable streamer mode. Streamer mode can be a bit restrictive at times and so it is nice to be able to turn it on and off when you need to.

One last thing I want to mention is that you don’t need to link your Twitch, or any other account to your Discord in order to use streamer mode. Streamer mode is available to everyone, regardless of which accounts they have linked.

Now if you no longer want to use streamer mode, this is how you would disable it.

How To Turn Off Streamer Mode On Discord

  1. Open up Discord on your PC and click on the gear icon in the bottom left to open your user settings.
  2. On the left hand side click on “Streamer Mode”.
  3. Now toggle off “Enable Streamer Mode” and streamer mode will now be turned off.

This is what it will look like when your streamer mode is turned off.

Streamer Mode Disabled

Now if you do disable streamer mode, and you plan on streaming, then just be careful not to display any of your personal info on your stream.

Remember, Discord has info such as your email and your phone number and if that got leaked to some of your viewers it could be a major headache.

I personally recommend enabling streamer mode at the very least to protect some of your personal info. I understand turning off some of the notification features, but the personal info feature is one I would definitely keep.

Can You Enable Streamer Mode On Discord Mobile?

You can’t enable streamer mode on Discord mobile. Discord streamer mode can only be enabled on PC.

With that being said, there is a major push form the Discord community to allow for streamer mode on mobile, but so far Discord has not made changes to allow for streamer mode on mobile.

With this in mind if you do stream from your phone then make sure not to screen share any of your personal info on Discord.

If you want to know how to stream using your phone then check out my article here.

Is Streamer Mode On Discord Worth It?

Streamer mode on Discord is worth it because it helps to protect a streamer’s personal info. It also helps to reduce notifications and other distractions that can occur while streaming and using Discord.

As those of you who follow me know, I stream on Twitch and I mainly stream myself playing video games. I don’t do a lot of screen sharing and so most of my personal info is protected.

If you are like me, then it is really up to you if you want to use streamer mode or not; however, if you stream on Discord or if you share your screen often on your stream then it’s a good idea to enable streamer mode.

It’s easy to do and helps keep some of your personal information safe and secure. And since it’s so easy to turn on and off I don’t see a reason not to use it.

If I shared my screen a lot on my stream I know that I certainly would use it.
