What Is The PS5 CPU Equivalent?

The PS5 has been out since 2020, and people are still confused about its CPU equivalent in a gaming PC. Let’s clear things up.

What Is the PS5 CPU Equivalent?

The Ryzen 3700X is the closest you can get to the PS5 CPU in terms of power and performance. It has 8 cores and 16 threads, just like the PS5. But the base clock speed of the PS5 is 3.5 GHz, which is slightly lower than the 3.6 GHz of the 3700X. This means they are not an exact match.

The CPU is not the only thing that matters when it comes to performance. The graphics card is the most important component in gaming, and memory and storage also play a role. A 3700X with a mid-range graphics card will not perform as well as a PS5.

The same goes for a 3700X with a top-of-the-line graphics card. It will surely outperform the PS5, giving you smoother graphics and a better overall experience.

Then there is the issue of game optimization. Some games are just better optimized for the PS5. So, even if you had a twice as powerful PC as the PS5, you may still see better performance on the console.

This is why finding a true PS5 CPU equivalent is so hard. You can find a close CPU in terms of power and performance, but it will never be an exact match. And even if you found one, the other components would need to be just as good (or better) for the PC to match a PS5.

But what about the PS5 Digital Edition?

What Is the PS5 Digital Edition CPU Equivalent?

The Ryzen 3700X is the closest CPU equivalent for the PS5 Digital Edition. It has all the power and performance of the regular PS5, although the PS5 has a slightly lower clock speed of 3.5 GHz.

I bet you are wondering: Didn’t this guy just say the 3700X is equivalent to the PS5 CPU? Well, I can explain.

The PS5 digital edition is simply a PS5 with no disc drive. This means they share the same components and performance. The 3700X is still the best CPU alternative for the PS5 digital edition.

The only downside is that it is not as optimized for gaming as the PS5 CPU. Still, if you are looking for a true PS5 Digital Edition CPU equivalent, this is the best option.

Keep in mind that the rig’s performance is not entirely dependent on the CPU. Don’t skimp on the graphics card, memory, or storage if you want the best gaming experience.

Since we’re talking about the CPU in a PS5, how does it compare to the one on the Xbox Series X?

Which CPU Is More Powerful: PS5 or Xbox Series X?

On paper, the Xbox Series X is more powerful than the PS5. It has a higher clock speed, more cores, and more threads. However, this doesn’t make for a big difference in performance.

The PS5 is still very powerful and better optimized for gaming. This means you will see better performance in some games on the PS5 than on the Xbox Series X.

However, things aren’t the same when comparing the PS5 Digital Edition to the Xbox Series S.

Which CPU Is More Powerful: PS5 Digital Edition or Xbox Series S?

The Xbox Series X has a slightly more powerful CPU, but the PS5 Digital Edition is a much more powerful console overall. The PS5 Digital Edition has 10.28 teraflops GPU with 16 GB of memory, while the Xbox Series S has a 4 teraflops GPU with 8 GB of memory.

For most casual gamers, the difference in performance won’t be too noticeable. However, if you want to play in higher resolutions and want to push the latest AAA titles to their maximum, a PS5 Digital Edition will give you a better experience.

Microsoft’s strategy with the Xbox Series S was to offer a more affordable next-gen console, and it looks like they succeeded. The Xbox Series S is the most affordable next-gen console on the market and it supports the same features as the Xbox Series X.

The PS5 Digital Edition is the way to go if you want the most powerful next-gen console, but the Xbox Series S is a sensible option if you’re on a budget.

You also have the option of going for a gaming laptop. Which one would be the closest equivalent to a PS5?

What Gaming Laptop Is Equivalent to PS5?

The MSI Notebook Delta 15 is the closest laptop equivalent to the PS5. It has a Radeon RX6700M GPU, which has almost the same specs as the PS5’s Oberon GPU. This laptop also has a slightly more powerful CPU. However, it costs almost three times as much as a PS5.

It’s not hard to find a PC that matches the power of the PS5. PCs have been able to outperform the PS5 for many years. However, due to their compact design, it’s more difficult to fit all that power inside a laptop.

You’ll still find plenty of laptops that are more powerful than the PS5, but they’ll usually be quite expensive.

The MSI Notebook Delta 15 offers great value for its price. In theory, it can easily match the PS5. However, that doesn’t mean that it will run every single game as well as a PS5 would.

If you want a more budget-friendly option, the Dell G5 comes close to matching the PS5 and is significantly cheaper than the MSI Notebook Delta 15.

The RTX 2070 Max-Q is similar to the GPU inside a PS5, and its 10th generation Intel i7 outperforms the PS5’s CPU. However, you’ll make some compromises on memory and storage.

Optimization plays a huge role on how well a game runs, and many games are simply better optimized for the PS5. After all, the hardware inside the PS5 is exclusively optimized for gaming. This means a PS5 may get better game performance than a PC with equal specs.
