What Is The Xbox Series X/S GPU Equivalent?

There’s a long- standing feud between gamers about which platform and system is superior.

For the longest time, PCs have had superior graphics, but modern consoles are starting to compete with PC GPUs. Here is the PC GPU equivalent of Xbox Series X/S graphics.

What Is The Xbox Series X GPU Equivalent?

The equivalent GPU to the Xbox Series X GPU is the AMD Radeon RX 6700XT. Both the Xbox Series X and the AMD Radeon RX 6700XT GPU are built on AMD’s RDNA2 architecture for graphics processing units and have similar teraflop performance.

The Xbox Series X, like the PS5, uses a GPU that is a custom implementation of AMD’s RDNA2 architecture.

The RDNA2 architecture is the latest GPU architecture for AMD GPU’s and is used in the AMD Radeon 6000 series of GPU’s for PC.

Since both the AMD Radeon 6000 series and Xbox series X GPUs are built on RDNA2 architecture, it’s useful to draw comparisons between the two by looking at the performance of each GPU measured in teraflops.

The Xbox Series X GPU performs at a rate of 12 teraflops, which means it can make 12 trillion low-level calculations per second.

While the performance of the various GPUs in the AMD Radeon 6000 series varies from GPU to GPU, the one closest to this is the AMD Radeon 6700XT GPU, which performs at a rate of 13 teraflops.

Although the performance between these chips is similar, they aren’t identical. Since the Xbox Series X is a custom implementation of AMD’s RDNA2 architecture, there are some differences between it and the Radeon AMD 6700RXT.

For example, the Xbox Series X GPU has a clockrate of 1.83 GHz, but 50 CUs (compute units). Meanwhile, the Radeon AMD 6700RXT has a clockrate of ~2.5GHz, but only 40 CUs.

Which Is Cheaper: Xbox Series X Or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X?

The AMD Ryzen 7 2700X is cheaper. A brand new Xbox Series X can cost between $500 and $700 depending on the hard drive size you choose, as well as other options. An AMD Ryzen 7 2700X costs around $237.

This is a little deceptive, however. You can buy an Xbox Series X, go home and hook it up and start gaming without buying much in the way of additional parts.

On the other hand, an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X is just a CPU—it is a single PC component.

You can’t really take home an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X and expect to start gaming without purchasing the rest of your gaming PC, monitors, and other important hardware like a mouse and keyboard.

A pre-built gaming PC built with an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X CPU will run around $1,200-$2,000, depending on the GPU and other components you choose.

So, while an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X is technically cheaper than the Xbox Series X, you’ll need to invest much more money in a PC before you are ready to game.

Which Has A More Powerful GPU: Xbox Series X Or PS5?

The Xbox Series X has a more powerful GPU than the PS5. While both consoles use custom AMD GPUs based on RDNA2 architecture, the Xbox Series X GPU performs at a rate of 12 teraflops, while the PS5 performs and 10.28 teraflops.

In fact, the Xbox Series X actually has the superior CPU and GPU.

They both have the same AMD 8-core CPUs, but a PS5’s is clocked at 3.5 GHz, while the Xbox Series X is clocked at 3.8 GHz.

When you look at the numbers, it’s pretty evident that the Xbox Series X is the more powerful system.

What Is The Xbox Series S GPU Equivalent?

The equivalent of the Xbox Series S GPU is the NVidia GTX 1060 3GB.

There’s a major difference between the GPU performance of the Xbox Series S and the Series X. Of course, the Series X is the better performing of the two.

Although both run on AMD custom RDNA2 GPUs, the Series X has a vastly more powerful GPU.

The Series X GPU performs at a rate of 12 teraflops, while the Series S performs at a rate of just 4 teraflops. That’s a significant difference that will affect your gaming experience.

The series S can’t run 4k video, or run at 60 fps, and it definitely can’t handle ray-tracing.

Which Is Cheaper: Xbox Series S Or NVIDIA GTX 1060 3GB?

The NVidia GTX 1060 3GB is cheaper. A brand new Xbox Series S can run you around $289 right now at GameStop, depending on the hard drive size and the other options you choose. An NVidia GTX 1060 3GB is $249 at newegg.com.

Again, if you choose the NVIDIA GPU, you’ll also need to purchase the rest of the computer in order to game. All in, you may spend in the ballpark of $1,000 to build a complete gaming PC with an NVIDIA GTX 1060 3GB GPU.

But, in terms of simply pricing the two GPUs, the NVIDIA is the cheaper of the two.

Which Has A More Powerful GPU: Xbox Series S Or PS5 Digital Edition?

The PS5 is the more powerful of the two consoles. While both feature AMD GPUs with RDNA2 architecture, the PS5 performs at 10 teraflops, while the Xbox Series S performs at just 4 teraflops.

An Xbox Series S has an AMD Radeon RDNA 2 GPU that performs at 4 teraflops.

The PS5 digital edition has an AMD Radeon RDNA 2 GPU, as well, but it performs at 10 teraflops.

6 teraflops is a world of difference! You’ll surely notice a performance difference if you get the chance to test the two systems out before you choose which one you want to bring home.

The “digital edition” refers to the fact that neither of these consoles have a disc drive. This means that you’re required to buy and download digital copies of games.

Without the disc drive, you can save yourself a lot of space and money. A digital edition typically costs significantly less than their full- edition counterparts.

Final Thoughts

If you’re reading this article and still don’t know which gaming machine is right for you, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Many people struggle with this decision, even when they’re presented with the numbers.

There are a lot of people who are loyal to brands (either Xbox or Playstation), or platforms (PC) and they’ll choose their chosen brand or platform regardless of the difference in specs.

You should also consider the types of games you’d like to play. If you want to play a game with lots of mods or CC, then the PC may be the way to go for you.

There are also some games that are easier to play on PC or that give you different gameplay options on PC.

Ultimately, the decision is yours. Most gamers already knew which console or platform they wanted to choose before they even read this article. So, go with your gut!
