If you are into streaming then you know how crucial a good sounding microphone is. In fact, many streamers will tell you that audio quality is even more important than video quality and I would have to agree. For this reason many streamers use the Blue Yeti to stream.

Is the Blue Yeti Worth It?

The Blue Yeti is absolutely worth it. It comes with three capsules and four polar patterns making it great for streaming, recording, gaming and podcasting.

Not to mention it is made by Blue, one of the best in the industry when it comes to microphones. For these reasons and many more, the price is reasonable for all that you get with the Blue Yeti Microphone.

I personally use the Blue Yeti (click here to view on Amazon) and I love it. This was the first time I purchased a really nice microphone and I was blown away by the sound quality when I went back and listened to some videos that I had recorded.

Now I will admit, it took me a little bit to get used to this mic. I use Streamlabs Prime to stream and record videos and there are tons of customizations you can make to your audio with that software.

That, and finding which gain my mic sounds best at took a little bit to figure out, but once I got them to the right settings the mic has been amazing.  

I also like that I can plug my headphones right into the mic, I use the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x (click here to see them on Amazon) in case you were wondering, and they are good to go. That helps save me a USB port on my PC being able to plug them in straight to the mic. 

Now let me go into some of the features of the Blue Yeti to help you understand why for the price, the Blue Yeti Mic is absolutely worth it. 

Blue Yeti Features

3 Capsules

Capsules are responsible for converting sound waves into mic signals. So generally speaking, the more capsules the better the mic will be at picking up sound. 3 capsules inside a tiny microphone like the Blue Yeti is more than enough for streaming, recording or podcasting.

4 Pickup or Polar Patterns

Another feature that sets this microphone apart from others is the 4 pickup or polar patterns. The 4 polar patterns allow you to adjust where your mic will be most sensitive when picking up the sound. Take a look at the picture below for a better understanding of how this works.

See how the dial has different shapes to choose from? Those are the different polar patterns you can choose from. One part of the dial will make the mic sensitive on all sides of the mic which can be good if you will be recording sound and moving around a lot. 

Another part of the dial will make the most sensitive part of the mic right in front of you. This is good for streaming and recording videos. This is the polar pattern that I use the most. 

And lastly you have the last two choices where the two opposite ends of the mic are the most sensitive parts which is great for things like interviews and podcasting. Regardless of how you will use this mic, the Blue Yeti has a polar pattern to help give you the best audio experience. 

Gain Control

The last feature I wanted to point out about this microphone is the gain control. Gain is how sensitive your mic is to picking up sound. The higher the gain, the more noise your mic will pick up. 

This is super helpful because many mics do not allow you to control how sensitive they are to picking up sound. So if you have a noisy background, you can’t really do anything about it. However, with the Blue Yeti, you can.  

There have been times where the background noise in my house has been a bit excessive and so it has been great to have the option to lower how much of that noise my mic is picking up. It is a super underrated feature that makes streaming with the Blue Yeti even more worth it. 

Is the Blue Yeti Good for Streaming?

The Blue Yeti is great for streaming. In fact, Blue Yeti is one of the microphones most recommended by streamers. When you consider all of the unique features the microphone comes with, as well as the price point, there are not many microphones better than the Blue Yeti when it comes to streaming. 

Like I have already mentioned, this is the mic that I use when I stream and record videos. If my audio was ever off in any of my streams or my videos it was never because of the Blue Yeti.

It was usually because I was talking way, WAY too close to the mic or because I still had the mic from my webcam connected and so my videos or streams were picking up sound from two different places. 

This mic is also a USB mic so you can just plug it in and you are good to go. You don’t need to install any drivers or anything like that; however, if you want to enhance the sound even more you will have to play around with the settings a bit in your streaming software. 

But overall, the Blue Yeti is an awesome mic for streaming. There is however one mic that slightly outperforms the Blue Yeti, but at a slightly higher price.   

What Mic is Better than the Blue Yeti?

The Blue microphone that is better than the Blue Yeti is the Blue Yeti X. The Blue Yeti X is one step up from the Blue Yeti and is widely considered the industry standard when it comes to streaming microphones. 

The main differences between the Blue Yeti X (click here to view on Amazon) and the Blue Yeti is that the Blue Yeti X has 4 capsules instead of three and also comes with an LED meter on the front of the microphone to help you measure your sound without having to open up your streaming software. 

As we touched on earlier, typically the more capsules a microphone has the better it will be at picking up sound and so having 4 capsules instead of 3 gives the Blue Yeti X a slight edge when it comes to sound quality.

However, they both have 4 polar patterns so the Blue Yeti X does not have an advantage in this regard. 

The LED meter on the front of the Blue Yeti X is also a major plus. The LED meter ranges from green (good) to red (bad) to help give you an idea how loud you are being on your microphone. If you are talking too loud on your microphone your sound will suffer.

Being able to see your voice volume without having to open your streaming software is a nice little feature that only comes with the Blue Yeti X.

Overall, both mics are great. If you want a slightly better mic for a little more money, then go with the Blue Yeti X. I personally use the Blue Yeti and I think it is an awesome mic.

My audio sounds great on both my stream and my Youtube videos and so I really have no complaints. Plus, I was able to save a little bit of money.
