When Is Discord’s Birthday?

If you use Discord you may have heard the rumors that Discord has some pretty sweet giveaways on their birthday, but are these rumors true? If so, when is their birthday? I answer those questions and more down below.

When Is Discord’s Birthday?

According to Discord, the platform’s official birthday is on May 13th. This date was chosen to celebrate the platform’s initial release to the public on May 13th, 2015. Discord celebrates its birthday on the same day each year, even if one of the years happens to be a leap year.

So now that we know when Discord’s birthday is, does anything special happen this day on Discord?

What Happens When It’s Discord’s Birthday?

The Discord team celebrates the platform’s birthday by hosting a stream and doing giveaways and gifts. On its 6th birthday, Discord updated its look and changed its color scheme to include a brighter, more saturated shade of “Blurple” – Discord’s primary brand color, a mixture of blue and pink.

However, the team typically does not celebrate the platform’s birthday in the same way each year. Ultimately, Discord’s management team decides how to celebrate Discord’s birthday.

It’s entirely possible that they may decide to shake things up in the future, including how the birthday is celebrated.

That’s especially true given that Discord’s 10th birthday is fast approaching – a milestone birthday that usually sees companies celebrate in a much more extravagant manner than previously.

Now that you know how fun Discord’s birthday can be, does Discord do anything special for their individual users’ birthdays?

What Happens When It’s Your Birthday On Discord?

There’s nothing special that happens on your birthday on Discord. However, if you’re on a server with Birthday Bot, you can set your birthday and time zone with the bot. Once you do that, the bot will let the rest of your server know when it’s your birthday so that everyone can celebrate with you.

Birthdays set with Birthday Bot are stored globally. This means that if you’re part of multiple servers that have added the bot, you won’t have to set your birth date on each server – Birthday Bot will already have the information.

If you want more info about setting up the Birthday Bot for your server then click here or watch the video below.

If you are trying to build a community on Discord then having different users’ birthdays being mentioned in the server could be a great idea.

When you are building a community on Discord you want people on your server to feel cared for and welcomed and what better way to do this than by wishing them a happy birthday.

Not to mention the fact that the Birthday Bot is free and very simple to set up. It’s a cool little feature that helps your server be a bit more unique.

How To Hide Your Birthday On Discord

Discord doesn’t display your birthday, which means you don’t have to hide it from other users. Only Discord staff will be able to access this information; however, if you’ve added your birthday to Birthday Bot and want to remove your information from the bot, you can do so.

All you need to do is @BirthdayBot and follow it up with the command “purge.” This command will remove your birthday information from the bot’s memory servers.

However, keep in mind that the users only have a limited number of Birthday Sets (the combination of their birthdate and time zone they input into the bot).

If you delete and re-add your information too many times, you may end up running out of attempts.

Also, you may have been wished a happy birthday while inside a server when it wasn’t even your birthday. Why is this?

Well often times when users are wishing you a happy birthday on Discord, and it is not your actual birthday, they are wishing you a “Happy Discord Account Creation Day”.

A users account creation date is not available on Discord, but it can be easily found using certain tools. So if a user randomly wishes you a happy birthday this may be what they are referring to.

If you want to know how to check when a Discord account was created you can check out my article here.

Now given that your birthday is not displayed in Discord, does Discord still need your birthday?

Does Discord Need Your Birth Date?

Discord will ask for your birthday when you create an account. This is done because users must be over 13 years or older in order to use Discord. Also, there are several servers on Discord that contain “mature” content and users must be 18 years or older to access these servers.

However, even though Discord has set these age requirements, they do not verify your age when you create an account.

It’s unfortunate, but many users lie about their age in order to use Discord and to enter these mature servers. If you run a server meant for mature audiences, and you suspect someone is lying about their age, it is best to ban them.

Although Discord does not verify a users age upon account creation, strangely enough they do require users to verify their age if they want to change their age on Discord.

If you want to know more about changing your age on Discord then check out my article here.

In the end, Discord’s birthday parties can be pretty sweet! But as of now the only way of displaying your birthday on Discord is with the Birthday Bot.
